Wildlife management and relocation for a major state infrastructure project: Testing the Code of Practice for the Welfare of Wildlife Affected by Land-clearing:  Wildlife Warriors

Injury and death of wildlife during land-clearing activities has only recently been considered in the development assessment process, and currently only by very few local government authorities.  In response to this important animal welfare issue, Wildlife Warriors has prepared a draft Code of Practice for the welfare of wildlife affected by land-clearing and other development processes (The Code).  The Code defines minimum standards and standard operating procedures to minimise wildlife injury and death, and ecological harm during development.  The Code is being tested in the field on a major rail infrastructure upgrade which traverses a variety of terrestrial and aquatic wildlife habitats.
