Fiji Airports Bird Management Program

Fiji Airport commissioned Ecosure to carry out a review of the bird management programs currently in place at Fiji’s two major airports, Suva and Nadi. The project also included risk assessments, training of airport personnel, and the development of comprehensive management plans for each port.

Christchurch International Airport Risk Assessment

This project was commissioned by Christchurch City Council to assess the change in risk of bird strike if a proposed international rowing course was built adjacent to the International Airport. Ecosure’s risk assessment resulted in more suitable locations being considered for the international rowing course.

Cairns International Airport Bird and Wildlife Management Plan

Ecosure was originally contracted by Cairns Port Authority to develop a comprehensive bird and wildlife management strategy. An Ecosure office has been established in Cairns since July 2006 primarily to cater for Cairns Port Authority’s extensive bird and wildlife management requirements. Projects we currently have in place include a detailed assessment of grassland management options, a long-term study of Flying-fox flight patterns, and a detailed risk assessment of both on and off airport hazards.

Gold Coast Airport Bird and Wildlife Management Program

Gold Coast Airport is the first airport in Australia to formulate a Bird and Wildlife Management Plan which complies with the National Framework for Bird and Animal Management at airports. The Bird and Wildlife Management Plan was produced by Ecosure, this builds on a nine year relationship with the airport where we have undertaken:

  • Regular bird surveys both on and off airport,
  • Risk assessments
  • Annual reviews
  • Coordinated multi-stakeholder committees
  • Operations Officer training
  • Forensic assessment of bird carcasses

In addition, Ecosure’s field biologists assist Airport Operations Officers in their role of active bird management, equipped with state of the art bird dispersal equipment.
