Green Globe Program
Green Globe is an international environmental and social sustainability program designed for the travel and tourism industry. Ecosure has experience in assisting companies achieve environmental sustainability through the Green Globe Program. Through the benchmarking and certification stages of the program, environmental impacts are identified and mitigation measures are developed to minimise environmental harm. Involvement and empowerment of the staff through communication and training is a key aspect of this program.
Environmental Management Systems (EMS)
Ecosure assists in, and guides, the development of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) that comply with the international standard ISO 14001. The development and implementation of an EMS significantly contributes to reduced environmental impact, promotes positive outcomes for sustainable operations, and provides for the implementation of standard operating procedures relevant to the EMS. Overall, ethical environmental practice by a company and its employees is the ultimate objective.
Construction Environmental Management Plans (EMP) and Compliance Auditing
Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMP) for construction and operational phases provide clear legislative and compliance guidelines to which the operator must adhere. The overall aim of CEMPs, is to monitor, manage and mitigate for potential and actual environmental impacts. They are specifically design to cater for the existing local environmental in which the development is taking place. Ecosure can also provide environmental compliance officers to ensure the requirements of the CEMP are being met.
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)
As a legislative requirement for many developments and changes to land use activities, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) are an increasingly important process. Ecosure staff develop and implement field surveys that capture quality survey data (including all flora and fauna), undertake relevant literature and data reviews, review environmental legislation relevant to the site, and develop a comprehensive report that consolidates all facets of the assessment process with guidelines and recommendations designed to be as realistic and practical as possible.
IDAS Development Applications
The Sustainable Planning Act 2009 is the primary legislative guide for planning and development assessments in Queensland. Derived from this Act is the requirement for Integrated Development Assessment Systems (IDAS). IDAS is generally divided into four stages – Application stage; Information & Referral stage; Notification stage; Decision stage. The type, scale and location of the proposed development dictate which stages of the IDAS are triggered. Ecosure is able to assist with advice and recommendations on all IDAS stages, and provide clients with comprehensive reporting pertinent to the IDAS process.
Waste management
Management of waste is one of the most pertinent environmental practices facing the 21st century. The business and industry sectors are responsible for generating the largest proportions of waste, however by having the right waste management program in place, these sectors can significantly reduce the volume and type of waste generated. Ecosure facilitates waste audits that provide an understanding of the type of wastes, and in what proportions, are being generated. The information derived from such audits can then be utilised to develop waste management and recycling programs. These programs are individually designed for the client and account for the type of operation in place. Such programs also provide the client with options for the development of internal purchasing policies, and product choice alternatives.
Our Projects
Green Globe Program, Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre
We have been assisting the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre achieve specific tasks to obtain benchmarking & certification under the Green Globe Program. This involves identifying their environmental risks, reviewing their environmental policy, compilation of a relevant legislation and obligations register, development of an environmental management plan for the centre and implementation of a training package for all staff and relevant contractors.
Environmental Management System, Couran Cove Island Resort
In order to enhance and justify their status as one of Australia leading ecotourism destinations, Couran Cove Island Resort commissioned Ecosure to assist in the development of an Environmental Management System compliant to the ISO 14000 international standard.
Waste Management Review and Options, Gold Coast Airport Terminals and Tenants
To fulfill the requirements of the Gold Coast Airport Environmental Management System, Ecosure designed and implemented a waste management audit of the airports terminals and tenants. The audit incorporated an assessment of waste produced by each key area of operation, and enabled a review of detailed options for waste minimisation and improved waste management practices.
Environmental Impact Statement (Aquatic Biology) at Hinze Dam Stage 3, Sinclair Knight Merz
In response to the proposal to raise the Hinze Dam wall for flood mitigation and to increase storage capacity, Ecosure identified environmental values, potential impacts of construction and operation and developed mitigation measures.
Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP)
Gold Coast Airport Runway Extension Project
Ecosure developed a CEMP for the extension of the airport’s apron and runway. This involved identification of potential impacts on environmentally significant features, development and implementation of mitigation strategies and ongoing compliance monitoring of construction works with the CEMP. Ecosure were also responsible for follow-up monitoring after the project completion. Ecosure has been engaged in this large developmental project from start to finish.
Key Staff
Julie Whelan. BSc (Hons) Conservation Biology. Principal Environmental Scientist.
Julie has extensive experience in preparing Environmental Management Plans and recently assisted a Convention Centre become certified under the Green Globe program. She is a trained ecoBiz facilitator and has undertaken eco-efficiency site surveys and developed action plans to reduce environmental impacts. She has also developed carbon reduction action plans and life cycle assessment for greenhouse gas emissions. Julie has developed several Construction Environmental Management Plans which aim to mitigate and manage environmental impacts associated with construction and operational phases of new developments. Julie is also experienced in the preparation of ecological assessment reports and management plans and in field based flora and fauna surveys across a variety of locations. Julie is also knowledgeable in the application of relevant Local, State and Commonwealth government regulations with a biodiversity conservation focus.
Jess Baglin. BEnvSc (major Ecotourism). Environmental Scientist.
Jess is a trained ecoBiz facilitator. She has had experience in the Green Globe accreditation program and recently completed a RABQSA recognised environmental auditor training course. She attended a Queensland Water and Energy Sustainable Technologies Network forum, which focused on efficient lighting and the benefits to Queensland businesses both financially and environmentally. Jess is also involved in wildlife management, specifically Australian White Ibis Programs in Queensland and New South Wales. This has led to experience in scientific writing, preparation of avifauna management programs and stakeholder/client liaison. Previous experience as an environment guide has provided Jess with skills required for environmental education and interpretation.
