Ecosure is a company (ABN: 63 106 067 976) formally established in 1994, initially focusing on the Tweed/Gold Coast Ibis Management Program and Bird Management Programs at Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast Airports. Ecosure has grown and developed extensively as an environmental consultancy since its inception, and has diversified considerably to incorporate various facets of environmental management.

Phil Shaw

Director

Phil has a strong background in environmental management and is a leading professional in the field of bird strike assessment and mitigation. He is internationally recognized in this field, having completed projects in the Middle East, New Zealand and Australia. He has a broad ecological appreciation having been involved in vegetation management planning, fauna survey and assessment and air, water and soil quality testing. Phil is a member of the EIANZ. With over 12 years experience in private consultancy and research Phil has developed superior environmental consulting skills and has considerable expertise in project management & quality control; aircraft/bird collision assessment & management; environmental risk assessment; environmental survey and monitoring; population ecology; habitat rehabilitation; native bush regeneration coordination; environmental management planning; community consultation; public presentation; stakeholder and client liaison; ornithological research and management; environmental research; bird management at waste landfills; experimental design; scientific writing; urban flying fox assessment & management; native fauna management & monitoring; environmental auditing; vegetation assessment & management; vertebrate and invertebrate pest management; and the preparation and delivery of environmental management plans and programs. Phil has a keen interest in ensuring that Ecosure maintains it’s strong ethical foundation while it expands as a company.

Beth Kramer

Beth is an environmental scientist with specialist skills in ecology. As a graduate of both Zoology and Environmental Management, Beth leads the Ecological Assessment and Planning team at Ecosure. This team is responsible for both large and small scale projects relating to environmental assessment; water quality; environmental legislative compliance; environmental management system compliance; environmental reporting; construction & development management plans. Beth’s particular expertise encompass project management; waste auditing & management; environmental management systems; environmental legislation; small team management; environmental reporting; and client liaison. She has a keen interest in natural areas management, environmental education, vegetation assessment & management, and habitat restoration & revegetation.

Kylie Patrick

Kylie is a consultant biologist with specialist skills in environmental monitoring and assessment, with particular emphasis on ornithological assessment & management. Broad environmental management skills offered by Kylie encompass a range of abilities that includes aircraft/bird collision assessment & management; environmental survey and monitoring; population ecology; habitat rehabilitation; native bush regeneration coordination; environmental management planning; public presentation; stakeholder and client liaison; ornithological research and management; environmental research; experimental design; scientific writing; urban flying fox assessment & management; native fauna management & monitoring; vegetation assessment & management; vertebrate and invertebrate pest management; and the preparation and delivery of environmental management plans and programs. Kylie’s organisational expertise provides for superior project management that incorporates the integration of project tasks and data that consolidates information into a form that is easily accessible to clients. Kylie is also experienced in developing and delivering environmental education and training programs.

Dr Jeff McKee BSc (Vet) (Hons), BVSc, CPL

Principal Research Scientist

Jeff has an eclectic and diverse background. After graduating science (genetics) with first class honours and then veterinary science in the early 80s he spent several years in mixed clinical practice before moving on to managing a clinical cytogenetics laboratory. The late 80s found him engaged in a broad scale disease eradication program (Brucellosis and Tuberculosis Eradication Campaign) in northern Australia and then on to more academic areas gaining experience in molecular biology and immunology. During this period Jeff worked in both the university and corporate R&D sectors in Australia and abroad. After returning to Australia in 1994 Jeff consolidated and directed his experience into wildlife conservation and disease ecology and has been engaged in that area ever since.

He, along with others, founded the regional Ibis Management Coordination Group (IMCG), the south east Queensland Wildlife Veterinarians Special Interest Group (WVSIG) and the Mobile Disease Ecology Unit (MDEU). He regularly presents at conferences and has published in a variety of journals including the Veterinary Record, the Journal of Reproduction and Fertility, Cytogenetics: Cell genetics, the Australian Veterinary Journal, Infection and Immunity, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Clinical Diagnostic and Laboratory Immunology, the Australian Journal of Ecology, the Journal of Virology, Meat Science, Australian Mammalogy and EcoHealth.

Jeff’s experience makes him ideally suited to support Ecosure’s existing projects particularly in the areas of quality control and foundation science. He is also heavily engaged in project design and developing new areas of expertise within the company. Jeff has a keen interest in aviation, has a commercial pilots licence and is a pilot officer instructor with the Australian Air Force Cadets (AAFC).


Will Jamieson

Principal Biologist

Will is a wildlife biologist with specialist skills in many aspects of urban ecology and flora & fauna management. Will’s particular expertise relate to the field of bird strike assessment and mitigation, and he currently leads the Ecosure team responsible for this aspect of the business. Will has been involved with all levels of bird strike assessment and mitigation, from undertaking field surveys to training to high level reporting. Will possesses excellent skills in ornithological assessment & management; environmental risk assessment; aviation bird hazard management; environmental survey & monitoring; reporting; data management; client liaison; and small team management. Will also has superior skills relating to aviation safety systems. As a graduate of Ecology and Environmental Planning, Will has a keen interest in wildlife management, ornithology, vegetation management, and habitat restoration & revegetation.

Gerard Ferguson

Principal Biologist

Gerard is an environmental scientist who currently leads the Ibis Assessment & Management Team at Ecosure. This team comprises some of the longest running and successful wildlife management programs in Australia and currently consult to numerous local government areas in Queensland and New South Wales. Gerard is experienced in all levels of the wildlife management programs he manages, from field work to high level reporting. Gerard possesses particular expertise in ornithological assessment & management; development & delivery of ibis/overabundant wildlife management programs; environmental survey & monitoring; reporting; data management; client liaison; and small team management. Gerard has a keen interest in pioneering exciting new technologically advanced systems that deny ibis access to artificial food sources at landfills.

We adopt a partnering approach with our clients to ensure both parties work closely and cooperate to derive benefits to both parties. We have internal review procedures relating to:

Prior to commencement of each job the following is conducted:

  • Risk assessment and management required of the project.
  • Occupational health and safety assessment, including site assessments and reporting requirements.

Ecosure carries adequate insurance policies to cover Professional Indemnity, Public Liability and Workers Compensation. Certificates of currency of these policies are available if required.
